Instrumentation, Measurements, and Experiments in Fluids, Second Edition is primarily focused on essentials required for experimentation in fluids, explaining basic principles, and addressing the tools and methods needed for advanced experimentation. It also provides insight into the vital topics and issues associated with the devices and instruments used for fluid mechanics and gas dynamics experiments. The second edition adds exercise problems with answers, along with PIV systems of flow visualization, water flow channel for flow visualization, and pictures with Schlieren and shadowgraph-from which possible quantitative information can be extracted. Ancillary materials include detailed solutions manual and lecture slides for the instructors.

Elements of Heat Transfer (Hardcover): Ethirajan Rathakrishnan Elements of Heat Transfer (Hardcover)
Ethirajan Rathakrishnan
R3,294 Discovery Miles 32 940 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Written for chemical, mechanical, and aerospace engineering students taking courses on heat and mass transfer, this textbook presents the basics and proceeds to the required theory and its application aspects. Major topics covered include conduction, convection, radiation, boiling, heat exchangers, and mass transfer and are explained in a detailed, to-the-point manner. Along with coverage of the topics, the author provides appropriate numerical examples to clarify theory and concepts. Exercise problems are presented at the end of each chapter to test the understanding gained within each subject. A solutions manual and PowerPoint slides accompany the text, upon qualification.

Helicopter Aerodynamics (Paperback): Ethirajan Rathakrishnan Helicopter Aerodynamics (Paperback)
Ethirajan Rathakrishnan
R449 Discovery Miles 4 490 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

This book is developed to serve as a concise text for a course on helicopter aerodynamics at the introductory level. It introduces to the rotary-wing aerodynamics, with applications to helicopters, and application of the relevant principles to the aerodynamic design of a helicopter rotor and its blades. The basic aim of this book is to make a complete text covering both the basic and applied aspects of theory of rotary wing flying machine for students, engineers, and applied physicists. The philosophy followed in this book is that the subject of helicopter aerodynamics is covered combining the theoretical analysis, physical features and the application aspects. Considerable number of solved examples and exercise problems with answers are coined for this book. This book will cater to the requirement of numerical problems on helicopter flight performance, which is required for the students of aeronautical/aerospace engineering. SALIENT FEATURES: To provide an introductory treatment of the aerodynamic theory of rotary-wing aircraft To study the fundamentals of rotor aerodynamics for rotorcraft in hovering flight, axial flight, and forward flight modes To perform blade element analysis, investigate rotating blade motion, and quantify basic helicopter performance

Experimental Investigation of Hypersonic Flow over Spiked Blunt Body (Paperback): Raman Kalimuthu, Ethirajan Rathakrishnan,... Experimental Investigation of Hypersonic Flow over Spiked Blunt Body (Paperback)
Raman Kalimuthu, Ethirajan Rathakrishnan, Rakhab C. Mehta
R1,780 Discovery Miles 17 800 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Experimental studies were carried out to measure the aerodynamic forces in the presence of the spike attached to the blunt body for the length to diameter ratio of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 and angle of attack up to 8 degree at Mach number 6. Five types of spikes, namely, conical, hemisphere, flat-face, hemisphere-disk and flat face-disk spikes were studied. The effect of conical and hemispherical spikes and flat faced-disk and a hemispherical-disk attached to a blunt nosed basic body has been investigated. The flow field was visualized with schlieren system. The coefficients of drag, lift and pitching moment were measured for different spike configurations using the six-component strain gauge balance. The influence of the spike shock wave generated from the spike which interacts with the reattachment shock was also investigated to understand the cause of drag reduction. Surface pressure distribution over the nose of the basic body was measured for all the cases of with and without spike at = 0 and 5 degree and Mach 6."
